Kansas has an excellent
turkey management program, and some folks would argue that there are more
turkeys in Washington County than people. Considering that Washington County
is 900 square miles with a population of only approximately 6500 people, the
locals arguing the turkey theory may be right!
The mild winters, abundant feed, and the
prolific nature of turkeys has yielded many heavy rope beard gobblers in our
area. We have both the Eastern and Rio – Grande strain of turkeys here with
many hybrids in the mix. There is a 2 bird limit on bearded turkeys and both
may be taken on the same day. We offer a 3 day spring turkey hunt with or
without a guide. Remember, this is a great time to scout for the fall deer
season and pick up sheds.
Kansas also has a fall turkey season for
those hunters wanting to harvest their own fresh Thanksgiving or Christmas
turkey dinner. This can be a great fall family adventure and tradition.
